National School of Public Health structure
VDEGS
VICE-DIRECTION OF SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT IN HEALTH
The School of Government in Health, conceived in 1996, under the inspiration of social thought and the Brazilian Health Reform encompasses the commitment of the National School of Public Health Sergio Arouca (ENSP) to develop and train professional staff, produce strategic knowledge and guarantee technical support for the management of Unified Health System (SUS). In this sense, the School of Government in Health (EGS) is not a School within another School: this arrangement represents the effort to structure the training and permanent education of public health managers, to consolidate the cooperation networks that broaden the capacity and quality of health governance in Brazil and in other partner countries, and to foster strategic research and articulation with health services.
Within the structure of the ENSP, the EGS is located next to the Direction, as Vice-Direction of School of Government in Health (VDEGS), and has as focus of action the strengthening of the national and international protagonism of the ENSP in accordance with the directives of Fiocruz and the Ministries of Health and Foreign Affairs. In this way, it concentrates its efforts on national and international cooperation actions, especially in the sphere of networks, and in the narrowing and improvement of institutional links.
VDEGS also works to support the development of strategic cooperation projects in the fields of research, education, health care and management aimed at strengthening SUS and health systems in countries with which ENSP maintains agreements and understandings of South America, Latin America and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), which include countries in Africa and East Timor.
VDEGS is also responsible for coordinating actions related to the performance of ENSP in the various national and international networks of which it is a member. This role includes the Executive Secretariat of the Brazilian Network of Schools of Public Health (RedEscola) and the Executive Secretariat of the Network of Public Health Schools of UNASUR (RESP / UNASUR), which covers the South American countries. It also supports the role of ENSP as an articulator of the Network of Public Health Schools of Portuguese Speaking Countries (RESP / CPLP).
Through this participation in the networks, emphasis is placed on the contribution of the institutional expertise of our School to strengthen training capacities in Public Health in the country and in other continents.
ENSP has thus expanded its efforts in order to permanently strengthen the institutional role as a National School of Government in Health with international recognition.

ENSP is becoming, each year, more international. Along the past two decades, it has established technical cooperation agreements across all of Brazil and with several national and international institutions in different areas of health care. Among the highlights of its academic contribution to Global Health, ENSP has been (and still is) conducting courses in several Latin American and Portuguese-speaking African countries, helping to build and develop local Public Health systems and policies. The increasing participation of foreign students in its courses, training programs and research projects evinces the strategic role of international partnership with other Public Health institutes and institutions throughout the Globe.
The Graduate School at Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health (ENSP) offers, since 1977, a diverse, highly qualified educational program, integrating basic research, community-based participatory research, health policies analyzes and applied Public Health research. Additionally, ENSP offers several MPH Programs ('Professional Masters'), nationally and internationally, as well as certificate and specialization courses. These international courses were/are designed under the conception of a "structuring collaboration in Public Health", were academic knowledge is used to build local capacities in the Public Health system.
